📝 🧠 I do a little bit of writing occasionally (Definitely should do it more often) - I've posted 5 UX Terms I learnt in 2018 and Designing a responsive UI based on 8pt grid on Medium

☕ 🗣️ I occasionally sit down with designers for a coffee and put their design journeys into words.

🍕 👩🏻‍💻 I'm a Hackathon enthusiast and I've won HealthHack 2020 and Service Design Jam 2019 together with lovely team members

✏️ 🌛 I enjoy drawing illustrations for fun or for work

My design journey

I graduated from a Chinese university with an optical information technology degree in 2014. Till now, I still have no idea in regards to how to design headlights.

In April 2014, while most of my classmates were pulling their hair to land a job in the optical industry, I got my first official design role in a humble startup based in Wuhan, China. To be honest, I didn't know what I was doing at that time. What I knew is I have persistence and resilience towards design and anything related to design.

From there, I picked things up really fast by working with a bunch of talented engineers and product managers in Geetest and learning from them, and I absolutely enjoyed working there.

The end of 2017 is definitely a turning point to my design career and my life. I quitted my job in and flew to 📍 Canberra, Australia by myself. My first job in Australia is being 🍲 waitress in buffet restaurant. Regardless of how hard finding a professional job in Australia has been, I luckily joined NetEngine as a UI slash UX designer 🙌 🎉 🍺

While I was working in NetEngine, I was exposed to various industries and I led a handful of challenging projects. I gained new skills outside of core design capabilities, for instance, business thinking, communicating skill, project management skill, and leadership etc.

In the end of 2020, I decided to leave agency environment & join a in-house product team, just so I will be able to do more UX research & really understand the problems to solve. Working in foundU gave me plenty of opportunities to plan research work, recruit participants, conduct interviews, synthesise findings, & fuel design solutions with research findings.

After foundU, I stepped into another B2B SaaS company called Cake that provides equity management solution to early stage startups. Since I revolve around data every day in Cake, from website traffic data on GA, session recordings on Hotjar, to product usage data on Amplitude, I feel a stronger connection between my design work and the product KPIs.
